While dealing with Post-partum depression and Bipolar, one thing has come to mind- yoga, prayer and meditation have saved me from some of the difficult thoughts and emotions that come from anxiety.
The first thing that has helped me cope is yoga. I find myself getting on the bed or ground and stretching my body in a calm way multiple times throughout the day. This helps me stay “grounded” when I feel the fight or flight mechanism start to switch on during my anxiety. This also helps keep my body loose when I feel my muscles tightening from oncoming, arising or long lasting anxiety I encounter.
The second thing that I find most helpful is prayer.
I pray for three things:
- Outward- God help me to recognize what the side effects of my medication is. Help me to overcome these side effects. Help me to have a strong and able body.
- Inward- God heal me from the inside out. Help me to see You in my heart and in my mind. Help me to know Your goodness and grace that You have for me.
- Onward- help me to see my future and the plans You have for me.
- Upward- help me to see my goals in front of me and accomplish them in Your time, in Your way and with Your goodness.
The last thing I want to share is for meditation I find that using a podcast called “Meditation Oasis” can help me to calm my mind enough to fall asleep. This helps me start the night with relaxing and positive energy. It even has episodes you can listen to when you wake up in the middle of the night.
All of these things can help someone somewhere fight against anxiety much like it has with me.
In what ways can these techniques help you? Are any of these things you already do? Are any of these things you wish to try?
